All the different studies carried out by Health & Safety Executive-UK on the accidents suffered both in the hotel and healthcare industry have reached the following joint conclusions :

Accidents caused by lack of safety measures results in higher labour costs, more waste of resources and losses.

Accidents in a hotel or a catering company may account for up to 8.5% of its invoicing, however, 70% of these accidents could have been prevented.

30% of the damages reported in the hotel, catering and healthcare sector are due to "slips and stumbles". Nevertheless, they account for 75% of major losses.

Slips and stumbles are important in the hotel and catering sector because they occur four times more often than in other activities and they represent the main cause of serious injuries, leading to economic losses as well as to the lack of qualified personnel available.The causes of accidents as identified in these studies include the type of shoes, the sole material, the fitting of the sole to the shoe, etc…An adequate health and safety management in the hotel, catering and healthcare sector keeps costs low and leads to savings through taking care of the most important resource of the company :
